Luke Turner is a saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and instructor based in Eugene, Oregon. While he is most heavily influenced by the jazz idiom, Rock, Funk, and Folk music serve as other large inspirations to his playing and writing.

Drawing inspiration from musicians such as John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans, Ben Wendel, and so many more, Luke strives to pay tribute to who have made music what it is today. In doing so, he also brings his own conglomeration of sounds to the table through his own compositions and arrangements.

Luke currently plays in the Oregon Jazz Ensemble, and has also shared the stage with other large ensemble groups such as the Jazz Kings, Nathan Phoelke Big Band, and more. He frequently plays and records in other groups as both a sideman and a bandleader, and has played in several New Orleans-style brass bands.

Luke has had the great opportunity to study with some of the area’s best minds, including Idit Shner, Roger Woods, Joe Manis, Sean Flannery, Joe Freuen, Steve Owen, Paul Krueger, and more.

Luke is currently attending the University of Oregon on a full-ride music and academic scholarship, working towards a degree in Jazz Studies, with a minor in Entrepreneurship.

In addition to performing, Luke also has a passion for teaching. He gives in-person and online private lessons in saxophone, jazz, or just general music. Navigate to the “contact” page for more details.
